Rumors of a notch-less iPhone 14 Pro appear to have been confirmed with a newly leaked photo, suggesting Apple is changing the look of its smartphone again. The new model is just five months away from release and leaks are beginning to appear more frequently, revealing new information and confirming suspected changes. The latest information suggests there are some exciting upgrades coming, even if most of them are destined for the iPhone 14 Pro models.

Apple‘s iPhone 12 brought the biggest changes in many years, showcasing a new flat-edged design and improved camera technology. It was a very popular phone and Apple made only a few refinements with the iPhone 13 series. Some of the camera upgrades that were exclusive to the iPhone 12 Pro Max were shared with every model of the iPhone 13 and the notch that holds the TrueDepth camera, which allows Face ID, was reduced a little.

With no delays predicted so far, the iPhone 14 should arrive on schedule in September of 2022 and is expected to introduce another change to the notch. Early rumors mentioned a pill-shaped hole and were later revised to suggest a sideways ‘i’ pattern consisting of a pill-shaped hole and punch hole occupying a space that’s about the same as the notch. The latest leak reveals front glass panels that are labeled as the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Max, and 14 Pro Max. The information first appeared on Weibo, as tweeted by Saran. The bezels appear to be even thinner than those on the iPhone 13 series and the other notable detail is that the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max still have the notch, with only the Pro models getting the new ‘i’ shaped holes.

Apple adds plenty of new features each year but the standard iPhone 14 could be a bit less enticing in 2022 than the iPhone 13 was in 2021. There is a rumor that only the two iPhone 14 Pro models will get a processor upgrade to the A16 chip. If true, this will be the first time in the last several years that Apple has released a flagship iPhone with an older processor. The A15 is super fast so while this isn’t a huge problem, it is a little disappointing, and suggests some tradeoffs or slowdowns happening behind the scenes.

Camera upgrades could be interesting, however, with rumors indicating Apple might finally move to higher resolution image sensors. Again, the suggestion is that this will be an upgrade for the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max and not for the two standard models. All models are supposedly getting satellite connectivity for emergency use and an improved 5G modem that is more power-efficient. This seems to be a year mostly devoted to the iPhone 14 Pro models.
