Smart devices around us are slowly making our kids smarter for all the wrong reasons. A 6-year-old boy in New Jersey, US, was reportedly caught by his mother using an Alexa device to solve his maths homework. The video posted on Twitter by the mother named Yerelyn Cueva showcased the boy asking Alexa, “What’s five minus three”? Alexa immediately answer two. The boy even later thanked Alexa for helping him with his homework.

“It was just any regular day of doing homework. I’m in the living room, and I overheard him asking Alexa some math problems, and I could not believe it,” said Yerelyn Cueva in a report by New York Post.

While this could be a very simply question for Alexa to answer correctly this could be a reason to worry for parents using smart assistants in their homes. We tried asking Alexa some mathematics question of up to second grade and surprisingly Alexa was spot on with the answers. While kids of up to 6-year-old might find it difficult to use a calculator to solve maths, the ability to get answers by simply asking a smart assistant like Alexa could be counterproductive for kids.

And for the record, you can also download Alexa on any Android smartphone and you do not necessarily need to get an Amazon Echo device.

Not just humans, recently, a parrot took the help of Amazon Alexa to order his favourite fruits. Parrots are known to be smart and it is always a treat to hear them copy what humans say. But imagine a parrot, so smart, that it can copy the owner’s voice and instruct an Alexa-powered Echo device to buy its favourite fruits and vegetables. The African Grey parrot Rocco had literally added a shopping list while speaking to an Amazon Alexa device daily.

His Alexa-powered shopping list includes broccolis, ice creams, watermelons and raisins. The parrot had even ordered Alexa to get him a light bulb and a kite for reasons best known to him. It was only recently that the owner of the Amazon account discovered what the parrot was shopping online secretly. Apart from shopping online, the parrot is an expert to instruct Alexa to play music.
