TikTok’s filters and effects are great when you want them — but what should you do when you want to remove filters? TikTok is home to all sorts of videos to eat up your time. Whether you’re interested in how-to videos, comedy ones, gaming clips, or anything else in between, there’s an abundance of content to keep you busy for hours on end.

One of the ways TikTok helps users create entertaining videos is with built-in filters and effects. A viral ‘Bella’ filter helps users make their TikTok videos look like they’re part of a Twilight movie. The Shapeshifting filter shows which Marvel character you look like. The iconic green screen effect lets you place yourself on whatever virtual background you’d like. Filters and effects can turn a boring TikTok video into a great one, and they’re an important tool for any creator on the platform.

As excellent as TikTok filters can be, there may come a time when someone wants to remove a filter. A funny or whacky filter is great for some videos, but it doesn’t always fit for others. To remove TikTok filters before you start recording a video, open the TikTok app, tap the ‘+’ icon at the bottom of the screen, tap ‘Filters’ on the right side of the screen, and tap the circle icon with a line through it. Once that circle icon turns white (and the other options are grayed out), you’ll know that all available filters are removed.

How To Remove Effects & Enhance Mode

In addition to TikTok filters, TikTok also has Effects that modify how your video looks. Although they’re in a separate section, removing TikTok effects is just as easy. From the camera page in TikTok, tap the ‘Effects’ button towards the bottom left of the screen and tap the same circle icon with a line through it. If you don’t see a red outline across any of the effects, you can record a video without worrying about an unwanted effect ruining it.

Lastly, you should also know how to remove TikTok’s Enhance feature. Enhance is TikTok’s version of a ‘beauty mode’ that smooths your skin free of wrinkles, zits, and other imperfections. If there’s a red checkmark next to Enhance on the right of the camera screen, tap it once. The checkmark will go away, a pop-up will say ‘Beauty mode off,’ and that’s all there is to it. Follow these steps, and you’ll remove all of TikTok’s filters and effects in no time at all.
