Zepp Health, the company behind the Amazfit line of wearables has announced a new smartwatch called the Amazfit GTS 2 Mini New Version. Amazfit is a popular brand in the wearables segment with a product lineup that includes smartwatches, earbuds, and even treadmills.

Zepp Health was known as Huami before announcing a name change in 2021. The Chinese manufacturer acquired Zepp, a California-based company, in 2018. Since then, it has gone on a name-changing spree. Prior to changing the name of the company, it changed the name of the companion app for its smartwatches from Amazfit to Zepp. In 2021, it also announced a new operating system called Zepp OS for its smartwatches which replaced the older Amazfit OS.

The Amazfit GTS 2 Mini was originally released in 2020 as a cheaper version of the Amazfit GTS 2. While the Amazfit GTS 2 has already received a successor in the form of the Amazfit GTS 3, a mini version is yet to be announced. Surprisingly, Zepp Health has now unveiled the Amazfit GTS 2 Mini New Version, but it isn’t the successor buyers have been expecting. The smartwatch is nearly identical to the 2020 model and comes in three colors— Breeze Blue, Flamingo Pink, and Meteor Black. So what’s changed?

Missing Features & Identical Price

The Amazfit GTS 2 Mini New Version has an SpO2 sensor

As stated on the product page, the Amazfit GTS 2 Mini New Version differs from the 2020 model with the lack of a barometric altimeter. This missing sensor translates to a fewer number of supported sports modes on the new version. Among the missing sports are snowboarding, alpine skiing, and cross-country skiing. Users still get GPS, a compass, and a gyroscope. The rest of the specs also remain the same.

The screen is a 1.55-inch AMOLED panel with 354 × 306 resolution. Zepp says there are more than 80 watch faces to choose from, with over 60 supporting the Always-on display feature. The smartwatch can measure heart rate and blood oxygen saturation in addition to sleep tracking and stress level monitoring. The smartwatch also features the Alexa voice assistant, music playback control, app notification alerts, a Pomodoro timer, and the ability to function as a remote control for the connected phone’s camera.

The battery capacity is also unchanged at 220mAh resulting in up to seven days of heavy usage. It can last up to 14 days in typical usage mode, or up to 21 days when used with all of the health and smart functions turned off. The Amazfit GTS 2 Mini New Version is already available for purchase in the U.S., but it keeps the same $99 price tag as the original model, giving users no justifiable reason to buy it instead.
